Trihexyphenidyl Hydrochloride is used as the main active ingredient in various medications to treating Parkinson’s disease. It is the hydrochloride salt form of trihexyphenidyl, synthetic, substituted piperidine that shows parasympatholytic activity. This active component antagonizes activities of acetylcholine through muscarinic receptors. Uses: This medicine is indicated for the treatment of symptoms of Parkinson’s disease or involuntary movements due to the side effects of certain psychiatric drugs. It also acts as the antipsychotic medication such as chlorpromazine/haloperidol. It can stop severe muscle spasms of the back, neck, and eyes that are caused by psychiatric drugs. This pill can also reduce other side effects such as muscle stiffness/rigidity. Trihexyphenidyl Hydrochloride is not recommended for the treatment of movement problems caused by tardive dyskinesia.
