Active Ingredient: Lisinopril is the main active component of this medicine. It is a long-acting angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor that has antihypertensive activity. It works by binding to and inhibiting ACE to block the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II. It helps to prevent the potent vasoconstrictive actions of angiotensin II that leads to vasodilation. It decreases angiotensin II-caused aldosterone secretion by the adrenal cortex, which leads to an increase in sodium excretion and subsequently increases water outflow.
Indications: This medication belongs to a class of drugs known as ACE inhibitors. ACE stands for the angiotensin-converting enzyme that treats high blood pressure i.e. hypertension. Zestril is used in adults and children above 6 years old. This drug also treats congestive heart failure in adults or improves survival after a heart attack.
Action Mechanism: This particular medicine works by blocking a substance in the body that causes the blood vessels to tighten. Zestril relaxes the blood vessels that help lower blood pressure and increases the supply of blood and oxygen to the heart. This medication is also indicated to help treat heart failure.
Dosages: This medicine is available in dosages as mentioned below:
- 2.5 mg: This medicine should be taken once a day with or without food as advised by the doctor
- 5 mg: It is to be consumed once a day as exactly prescribed by the doctor, do not go against it
- 10 mg: This conventional tablet is to be administered once a day as directed by the doctor

Note: Discuss the medical history of an allergic reaction including swelling of the face/lips/tongue/throat, blood filtering procedures, high level of potassium in the blood before taking this drug.
What is Zestril?
Zestril is an ACE inhibitor that is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children who are at least 6 years old. It is also used to treat congestive heart failure in adults, or to improve survival after a heart attack.
How does Zestril work?
ACE inhibitors such as Zestril lower blood pressure by reducing the production of angiotensin II, thereby relaxing arterial muscle and enlarging arteries.
How should be Zestril consumed?
Follow directions on prescription. Your doctor may occasionally change your dose. Use the medicine exactly as directed. Drink plenty of water each day while using this medicine. Zestril can be taken with or without food.
Why does Zestril cause a cough?
Like all ACE inhibitors, Zestril may cause a nonproductive cough that resolves when the drug is discontinued.
Is this drug safe to take during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
Zestril should not be taken during pregnancy because fetuses and neonates have died when Zestril was administered during pregnancy.
