With the loss of water, the urine becomes more alkaline or basic. This nature of the urine causes an increase in the reabsorption of ammonia by the renal tubules.
Uses: Given medication is used to prevent and reduce the symptoms of altitude sickness. It can decrease headaches, tiredness, nausea, dizziness, and shortness of breath. It is also used with other medicines to treat high pressure inside the eye due to certain types of glaucoma. It reduces the production of fluid inside the eye. It also decreases the buildup of body fluids caused by heart failure or certain medications. It can be used with other medicines to treat a certain type of seizures.
