Vancomycin Hydrochloride is a tricyclic glycosylated peptide that has bactericidal activity against most organisms and a bacteriostatic effect on enterococci. These penicillins and cephalosporins, binds tightly to the D-alanyl-D-alanine portion of cell wall precursors, so as to interfere with bacterial cell wall synthesis. It results in the activation of bacterial autolysins that destroy the cell wall by lysis. This active component may also alter the permeability of bacterial cytoplasmic membranes and may selectively inhibit RNA synthesis. This active agent inhibits bacterial cell wall assembly and is toxic to kidneys and the inner ear.
