Mefloquine Hydrochloride is piperidinyl quinidine that has antimalarial activity. Although the exact mechanism of this medication is largely unknown, this agent acts as a blood schizonticide and probably exerts its actions by interacting with the phospholipid bilayer to interfere with the stability of the cell membrane and causing cell lysis. It is active against Plasmodium falciparum and Plasmodium vivax.

Uses: Given medication is indicated for the treatment of mild to moderate acute malaria caused by mefloquine-susceptible strains of P. falciparum both chloroquine-susceptible and resistant strains or by Plasmodium vivax.
