Rizatriptan Benzoate is used as the main active component in the medication to treat migraine headache. This component is a member of the triptan class agents that shows anti-migraine property. It binds to and activates serotonin 1B receptors expressed in intracranial arteries, and to 5-HT 1D receptors present on peripheral trigeminal sensory nerve terminals in the meninges and central terminals in brain stem sensory nuclei.
