Metoclopramide Hydrochloride is a para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA) derivative with gastroprokinetic and antiemetic activities. It binds to dopamine 2 receptors in the peripheral nervous system (PNS), antagonizing dopamine-mediated relaxation of gastrointestinal smooth muscle. It promotes gastroprokinetic; the pyloric sphincter and the duodenal bulb are relaxed. This given active component may also increase the resting tone of the lower esophagus sphincter, preventing acid reflux.
Class of Drugs – Antiemetics and prokinetics
Molecular Formula – C22H30O5
Molecular Weight – 374.5 g/mol
Working: Given medication works by emptying the contents of the stomach. It acts by increasing the stomach muscle contractions. It speeds up the movement of food through the stomach and intestines. Metoclopramide Hydrochloride also increases the tightness of the lower esophageal sphincter (the muscle connecting the esophagus and stomach). It also restricts stomach acid from flowing back up to the esophagus.
It can be used to prevent nausea and vomiting. It blocks receptors in the body that are responsible for triggering nausea and vomiting.
Uses: This particular medication is indicated for the treatment of certain conditions of the stomach and intestines. Given an active component is used to treat persistent heartburn when the usual medicines do not work well enough. It can decrease the damage done by stomach acid to the swallowing tube and help to heal.
Metoclopramide Hydrochloride can be used in diabetic people who have poor emptying of their stomachs. This can decrease symptoms of nausea, vomiting, and stomach/abdominal fullness.
