Metoclopramide Hydrochloride is a para-aminobenzoic acid derivative that shows gastroprokinetic and antiemetic activities. This is an active ingredient that binds to dopamine 2 receptors in the peripheral nervous system. It antagonizes dopamine-mediated relaxation of gastrointestinal smooth muscle and promoting gastroprokinesis; the pyloric sphincter, and the duodenal bulb. This Factor also increases the resting tone of the lower esophagus sphincter that prevents acid reflux.
Indications
Given medication is indicated to treat conditions of the stomach and intestines. Metoclopramide composed medicine is indicated for the treatment of persistent heartburn when the other medicines do not work well enough. Reglan treats heartburn that occurs after a meal or during the daytime. Treating persistent heartburn can reduce the damage occurred by stomach acid to the esophagus and help to heal.
This effective medicine is recommended in diabetic people who have poor emptying of their stomachs. Treating gastroparesis can reduce symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and stomach/abdominal fullness.

Action Mechanism
This mentioned medication works by emptying the stomach. The action mechanism of Reglan is by increasing stomach muscle contractions. It speeds up the movement of food in the stomach and intestines. It increases the tightness of the lower esophageal sphincter that stops stomach acid from flowing back up to the esophagus. This drug works by blocking a natural substance that speeds up stomach emptying and movement of the upper intestines.
It is also used to prevent nausea and vomiting by blocking receptors in the body that are responsible for triggering the same.
Dosages
This effective medicine is available in a dosage as given below:
- 10 mg: This tablet should be taken 30 minutes before meals and at bedtime, usually 4 times a day or exactly as directed by the doctor
Note
This medicine should not be taken if you have a medical history of muscle movement or tardive dyskinesia.
