Esomeprazole Magnesium is a medication belongs to a group of drugs called Proton Pump Inhibitors. It is the magnesium salt of esomeprazole with gastric proton pump inhibitor activity. This active component is protonated and converted into the active achiral sulphenamide. It acts by inhibiting its activity and the parietal cell secretion of H+ ions into the gastric lumen, the final step in gastric acid production. This medicine is available in the delayed-release tablet form.

Working: Given medicine is composed as a delayed-release tablet that reduces the amount of acid the stomach produces. This active component Esomeprazole Magnesium works by restricting the proton pump in the stomach’s cells. Due to the blockage of the proton pump, the stomach produces less acid than before.

Uses: Given proton pump inhibitor medicine decreases the amount of acid produced in the stomach. Esomeprazole Magnesium is indicated for the treatment of symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease and other conditions involving excessive stomach acid such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.

It is an active component used to promote healing of erosive esophagitis i.e. damage to the esophagus caused by stomach acid. It may also be given to prevent gastric ulcer caused by infection with Helicobacter pylori, or by the use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
