Efavirenz acts as the main active ingredient used in various medicines. It is a synthetic non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor with antiviral activity. It binds directly to the human immunodeficiency virus type 1, an RNA-dependent DNA polymerase. It blocks its function in viral DNA replication. It works by retarding or preventing damage to the immune system and reducing the risk of developing AIDS. It also induces the activity of the cytochrome P450 system, accelerating its own metabolism.

Class of Drugs – A non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor

Molecular Formula – C14H9ClF3NO2

Molecular Weight – 315.67 g/mol

Working: This given active component is an oral medication. It treats infections associated with the human immunodeficiency virus I.e. HIV. This given drug Efavirenz directly inhibits the activity of reverse transcriptase and restricts the production of DNA and new viruses.
