Dutasteride is a synthetic 4-azasteroid compound intended as the main active component in medicines. It is approved in the treatment enlarged prostate. It binds to isoenzymes 1 and 2 of 5 alpha-reductase forming stable enzyme complexes and inhibiting the conversion of testosterone to 5 alpha-dihydrotestosterone. The reduction in DHT activity may mitigate or prevent enlargement of the prostate gland. The type reductase iso-enzyme is primarily active in the reproductive tissues, while the type 1 isoenzyme is also active in the skin and the liver.

Working: This active ingredient belongs to a class of drugs called 5 alpha-reductase inhibitors.  There’s a hormone in your blood called dihydrotestoterone (DHT) that causes the prostate to grow. Dutasteride prevents the formation of DHT in your body, causing an enlarged prostate to shrink.
