Nitazoxanide is used as the main active ingredient in various medications. It is an Antiprotozoal that treats diarrhea in children and adults caused by the protozoa Cryptosporidium or Giardia. This active component is an antimicrobial that shows activity against several parasitic worms and protozoa. It is used in the treatment of giardiasis and cryptosporidiosis.

This active ingredient Nitazoxanide works by obstructing the conversion of chemicals to energy in protozoal cells.

Uses: This medication is an antiprotozoal medicine that treats infections caused by protozoa, which is single-cell parasites that live in moist places such as lakes, streams, and soil.  It is approved for the treatment of diarrhea caused by Giardia or Cryptosporidium. These conditions are also called “Traveler’s diarrhea.” It can be used in adults and children who are at least 1 year old.
