Active Ingredient: The main active component of this medication is Rasagiline Mesylate, which is an inhibitor of monoamine oxidases used as adjunctive therapy in combination with levodopa and carbidopa in the management of Parkinson’s disease. It is only found in individuals that have used or taken this drug. It is an irreversible inhibitor of monoamine oxidase and is used as a monotherapy in early Parkinson’s disease or as an adjunct therapy in more advanced cases.
Indications: Rasagiline composed medicine Azilect is used alone or with other medications (such as levodopa/carbidopa) to treat symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. It can help improve symptoms such as shakiness, stiffness, and difficulty moving. It can also help reduce the amount of “off” time i.e. periods of slow movement or stiffness.
Action Mechanism: The mentioned medication belongs to a class of drugs known as MAO inhibitors. Azilect works by increasing the levels of certain natural substances in the brain such as dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin. Parkinson’s disease is thought to be caused by too little dopamine in the brain.
Dosages: This medicine is available for oral consumption and in dosage as mentioned below:
- 0.5 mg: I is advisable to consume this pill with or without food as directed by the doctor, usually once daily
- 1 mg: It shall be consumed with or without food once a day as prescribed by the doctor
