Description
Active Ingredient: The main active ingredient is Gabapentin, which is a synthetic analogue of the neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric acid with anticonvulsant activity. Although its exact mechanism of action is unknown, gabapentin appears to inhibit excitatory neuron activity. This agent also exhibits analgesic properties. It was originally developed as a chemical analogue of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) to reduce the spinal reflex for the treatment of spasticity and was found to have anticonvulsant activity in various seizure models.
Indications: Gabapentin composed medicine Neurontin is used with other medications to prevent and control seizures. It is also used to relieve nerve pain following shingles (a painful rash due to herpes zoster infection) in adults. It is known as an anticonvulsant or antiepileptic drug.
Action Mechanism: This medicine belongs to a class of drugs called anticonvulsants. A class of drugs is a group of medications that work in a similar way. These drugs are often used to treat similar conditions. Neurontin seems to prevent the increase in sensitivity to pain that occurs. For seizures, it may alter the effect of calcium or low levels of calcium may cause seizures.
Dosages: This medicine is available for oral consumption and in dosage as mentioned below:
- 100 mg: This medication shall be taken with or without food as directed by the doctor
- 300 mg: It is to be consumed exactly as advised by the doctor

Note: Not suitable for breastfeeding women, this tablet may have undesirable effects on a nursing infant.
What is Neurontin?
Neurontin is anti-epileptic drug, called as an anticonvulsant. It affects chemicals and nerves in the body that are involved in the cause of seizures and some types of pain.
What is Neurontin used for?
Neurontin is used in adults to treat neuropathic pain (nerve pain) caused by herpes virus or shingles (herpes zoster).
How to consume Neurontin?
If Neurontin tablet is broken and only half of it is consumed, take the other half at the next dose. Any tablet that has been broken should be used as soon as possible or within a few days.
What should be avoided while taking Neurontin?
Avoid taking an antacid within 2 hours before or after taking Neurontin. Antacids can make it harder for the body to absorb gabapentin.
What other drugs shall affect Neurontin?
Taking Neurontin with other drugs that makes the consumer sleepy can worsen this effect. Ask the doctor before taking a sleeping pill, narcotic medication, muscle relaxer, or medicine for anxiety, depression, or seizures.
