Pramipexole Dihydrochloride is the active ingredient in the given medicine. It is a benzothiazole derivative acts as a nonergot dopamine agonist that binds to D2 and D3 dopamine receptors in the striatum and substantial of the brain. This active factor may be related to fewer dyskinetic side effects in treated subjects.

Indications

Pramipexole composed medicine is indicated alone or with other drugs to treat Parkinson’s disease. This drug can improve the ability to move and can reduce shakiness, stiffness, slowed movement, and unsteadiness. Mirapex ER may also reduce the number of episodes of not being able to move. It is a dopamine agonist that restores the balance of a certain natural substance like dopamine in the brain.

Action Mechanism

This medication is prolonged-release tablet contains the active ingredient pramipexole, which is a type of medicine called a dopamine agonist.  Mirapex ER works by mimicking the activity of a substance in the brain called dopamine. This is the substance known as a neurotransmitter, present in the brain and nervous system. It is involved in transmitting messages between nerves. These messages permit the normal functioning of the body. It is known to be reduced or absent in the brains of people with Parkinson’s disease.

Dosages

This medicine is available for oral administration in dosages as mentioned below:

• 0.375 mg: It is an extended-release tablet taken orally once a day with or without food as directed by the doctor
• 0.75 mg: This tablet must be taken once a day before or after meal as advised by the doctor
• 1.5 mg: It is to be administered once a day as mentioned in the prescription by the doctor
• 3 mg: This tablet is advisable to take once a day as prescribed by the doctor

It may cause increased sexual urges, unusual urges to gamble, or other intense urges while taking this medication. Consult the doctor if caused intense or unusual urges while taking this drug.
