Active Ingredient: The active component of this medicine is Nevirapine. This component is a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor. It is an antiretroviral drug that reduces HIV viral loads and increases CD4 counts. It is to retard or prevent the damage to the immune system and to reduce the risk of developing AIDS. This is an active ingredient that is a nonnucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor used in the therapy of human immunodeficiency virus infection and the acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS).
Indications: This medication is indicated with other HIV drugs to help control HIV infection. This drug helps to reduce the amount of HIV in the body so the immune system can work better. Viramune lowers the risk of getting HIV complications like new infections, cancer) and improves the quality of life. This drug belongs to a group of drugs called non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors.
Action Mechanism: Given medication is a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor that shows its activity against HIV-1 by binding to reverse transcriptase. Viramune does this to block the RNA- and DNA-dependent DNA polymerase actions including HIV-1 replication. This drug does not require intracellular phosphorylation for activity
Dosages: This medicine is available in dosages as given below:
- 200 mg: This medication should be taken with or without food, usually once a day for the first 14 days when initiating the treatment, then twice daily or as directed by the doctor
Note: This drug can cause severe or fatal liver problems. Stop consuming this medication and call the doctor at once if experiences nausea, loss of appetite, upper stomach pain, tiredness, fever, unexplained muscle pain or weakness, dark urine, clay-colored stools, or jaundice.
