Indications

It must be given with certain other medications for instance cobicistat, ritonavir to increase the levels of a given medication.
Prezista does not cure HIV infection. It helps to decrease the risk of spreading HIV disease to others if taken precautions as advised by the doctor.

Action Mechanism
After the infection of HIV, a cell multiplies and makes copies of itself, it uses an enzyme called protease to process itself correctly so it can be released from the cell to infect other cells. This type of medication works by blocking that enzyme. In effect, the cell cannot multiply and new cell formation is inhibited. In this way, HIV infection is controlled by this pill.
