Description
Active Ingredient
This mentioned medication is composed of active component Exemestane, which is a synthetic androgen. It binds irreversibly to and inhibits the enzyme aromatase so as to block the conversion of cholesterol to pregnenolone and the peripheral aromatization of androgenic precursors into estrogens. It is a steroidal inhibitor of aromatase which effectively blocks estrogen synthesis in postmenopausal women and is used as therapy of estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer, usually after resection and after the failure of tamoxifen.
Indications
Given medication is used to treat certain types of breast cancer such as hormone-receptor-positive breast cancer in women after menopause. Exemestane Aromasin composed of medicine is also used to help prevent cancer from returning. Some breast cancers are made to grow faster by a natural hormone called estrogen. It decreases the amount of estrogen the body makes and helps to slow or reverse the growth of these breast cancers.
Action Mechanism
This medicine selectively inhibits aromatase activity in vitro, in a time-dependent and irreversible manner, suggesting the mechanism of action that Aromasin covalently binds to aromatase as a pseudo-substrate and inactivates the enzyme.
Dosages
This medicine is available for oral consumption and in dosage as mentioned below:
- 25 mg: This medicine shall be taken once a day with food or after a meal, or as directed by the doctor
