Active Ingredient
Zonisamide is an active ingredient in this medicine. It is a sulfonamide derivative that has an anticonvulsant property. The working of this drug is not known completely. This active drug appears to block sodium and calcium channels to stabilize neuronal membranes and suppress neuronal hyper-synchronization. It shows an affinity for the gamma-aminobutyric acid /benzodiazepine receptor ionophore complex. This drug does not potentiate the synaptic activity of GABA.
Indications
Zonisamide composed of medicine is indicated with other medications to prevent and control seizures or epilepsy. Zonegran is a sulfonamide anticonvulsant and a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor that effectively prevents seizures.

Action Mechanism
This mentioned medication works by blocking specific pores on the surface of nerve cells called sodium channels and calcium channels. This drug Zonegran works by blocking these channels, it prevents the nerve cells from synchronizing their activity and prevents abnormal electrical activity spreading through the brain.
Dosages
This medication is available in dosages as given below:
- 25 mg: This conventional tablet is to be consumed 1 to 2 times a day with or without food as prescribed by the doctor
- 50 mg: This medicine is advisable to take 1 or 2 times a day as mentioned in the prescription by the doctor
- 100 mg: It is to be consumed 1 or 2 times a day as advised by the doctor
