Active Ingredient

Ondansetron is the main component in this medicine that shows antiemetic activity. It is a selective serotonin receptor antagonist that blocks the action of serotonin at 5HT3 receptors, leading to the suppression of chemotherapy- and radiotherapy-caused nausea and vomiting. This active ingredient is a well-tolerated drug with few side effects. This is broken down by the hepatic cytochrome P450 system and affects on the metabolism of other drugs broken down by this system; This is a serotonin 5-HT3 receptor antagonist indicated mainly to treat nausea and vomiting chemotherapy. Its effects are thought to be on both peripheral and central nerves. It reduces the activity of the vagus nerve that activates the vomiting center in the medulla oblongata.

Indications

This mentioned medication blocks the actions of chemicals in the body that can trigger nausea and vomiting. Zofran is indicated to prevent nausea and vomiting that may be induced by surgery, cancer chemotherapy, or radiation treatment. It prevents nausea and vomiting caused by cancer drug treatment and radiation therapy. It blocks one of the natural substances in the body that causes vomiting.

Action Mechanism

Ondansetron-composed medicine called a 5HT3 receptor antagonist works by blocking 5HT3 receptors that are found in the brain and gut. Zofran shall be used after chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and surgery which can cause a substance called serotonin to be released into the body.

Dosages

This medicine is available for oral consumption as follows:

• 4 mg: This medication should be taken orally 1 to 2 hours before the start of the treatment
• 8 mg: It can be taken two times a day as advised by the doctor. Do not go against it
