Active Ingredient

The main active component of this medication is Fluoxetine Hydrochloride, which is the hydrochloride salt form of fluoxetine, a diphenhydramine derivative, and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor with antidepressant, anti obsessional, and antibulimic effects. It binds to the presynaptic serotonin receptor resulting in negative allosteric modulation of the receptor complex, to block the recycling of serotonin by the presynaptic receptor. Inhibition of serotonin reuptake by fluoxetine enhances serotonergic function through serotonin accumulation in the synaptic space, resulting in long-term desensitization and downregulation of 5HT1 receptors leading to antidepressant, anti obsessional, and antibulimic effects via various nerve pathways in the brain.

Indications

Fluoxetine-composed medicine Prozac is used to treat depression, panic attacks, obsessive-compulsive disorder, a certain eating disorder, and a severe form of premenstrual syndrome i.e. premenstrual dysphoric disorder.

It may improve mood, sleep, appetite, and energy level and may help restore your interest in daily living. It might decrease fear, anxiety, unwanted thoughts, and the number of panic attacks. It may also reduce the urge to perform repeated tasks that interfere with daily living. It may lessen premenstrual symptoms such as irritability, increased appetite, and depression. It might decrease binging and purging behaviors in bulimia.

Action Mechanism

Given antipsychotic medication works by increasing the amount of serotonin in the brain. Serotonin helps maintain mental health balance. An increase in serotonin helps to treat symptoms of depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, bulimia nervosa, and panic attacks. Dosages

This effective medicine is available for oral consumption and in dosage as mentioned below:

• 10 mg: It is to be consumed as directed by the doctor, usually once a day in the morning
