Active Ingredient

Venlafaxine Hydrochloride acts as the main active ingredient in this medicine. This drug is used for the treatment of depression. It is metabolized to O-desmethyl venlafaxine, which potentiates CNS activity. It also inhibits neuronal reuptake of norepinephrine, dopamine, and serotonin. It functions as a serotonin and noradrenaline reuptake inhibitor and is used as an antidepressive factor.

Indications

This medication is approved for the treatment of depression. It may improve the mood and energy level and may help restore interest in daily living. Effexor is known as a serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor that restores the balance of certain natural substances like serotonin and norepinephrine present in the brain.

Action Mechanism

This mentioned medication is thought to work by increasing and regulating the levels of two different neurotransmitters in the brain. These are norepinephrine, also called noradrenaline, and serotonin.  At low doses, Effexor prevents serotonin reuptake that means that it leaves more serotonin in the system.

Dosages

This medicine is composed as a conventional tablet form in dosages as mentioned below:

• 37.5 mg: This medication should be taken 2 to 3 times with food as prescribed by the doctor
• 75 mg: It is to be administered 2 to 3 times with food as advised by the doctor

Note

This medicine should not be used in people with uncontrolled narrow-angle glaucoma or being treated with methylene blue injection.
