Active Ingredient

The main active component is Bromocriptine Mesylate. It is a methanesulfonate salt that plays the role of an antiparkinson drug. The ingredient contains bromocriptine and Bromocriptine Mesylate is the mesylate salt of bromocriptine. It is semisynthetic ergot alkaloid with dopaminergic, antidyskinetic, and anti-prolactin emic activities. This active agent also stimulates dopamine D2 receptors in the anterior pituitary gland that leads to inhibition of prolactin secretion and lactation. This may inhibit the proliferation of prolactin-dependent breast cancer cells.

Indications

This medication is indicated to treat certain conditions caused by a hormone imbalance with excessive prolactin in the blood i.e. hyperprolactinemia. Symptoms such as a lack of sexual development in adolescents. Women with missed menstrual periods, loss of interest in sex, hot flashes, infertility, or unexpected breast milk production and leakage from the nipples. Men may show enlarged breasts, reduced libido, reduced facial or body hair, and loss of muscle. This pill Parlodel is approved to treat these symptoms caused by brain tumors that can produce prolactin.

This medicine can treat acromegaly, a condition caused by a pituitary gland tumor that produces too much growth hormone and symptoms of Parkinson’s disease like stiffness, tremors, muscle spasms, and poor muscle control.

Action Mechanism

It is an anticholinergic medication that blocks a certain natural substance i.e. acetylcholine. This decreases muscle stiffness, sweating, and the production of saliva. It helps to improve walking ability in people with Parkinson’s disease. It can restrict severe muscle spasms of the back, neck, and eyes caused by psychiatric drugs.

Dosages

This anticholinergic medicine is available in a dosage as follows:

• 2.5 mg: This is an oral tablet can be taken with food as directed by the doctor, usually 1 or 2 times a day
