Active Ingredient
This medication is composed of Isosorbide Mononitrate, which is an organic nitrate with vasodilator activity. It relaxes vascular smooth muscle by the production of free radical nitric oxide. It is identical to the endothelium-derived relaxing factor. This factor activates guanylyl cyclase to increase the synthesis of cGMP within a smooth muscle that leads to in dephosphorylation of light chain myosin. Additionally, it relaxes coronary arteries to maximize blood circulation through the ischemic area.
Indications
This medication is indicated to prevent chest pain like angina in people with a certain heart condition. Monoket is a member of a class of drugs known as nitrates that acts by relaxing and widening blood vessels so blood can flow more smoothly to the heart.
It does not relieve chest pain once it occurs. This medication is not approved to be consumed just before physical activities like exercise or sexual intercourse to prevent chest pain.
