Active Ingredient

The main active ingredient in the medicine is Digoxin, which is a Cardiac Glycoside. It is digitoxin beta-hydroxylated, extracted from the foxglove plant, Digitalis lanata. It is used to control the ventricular rate in atrial fibrillation and to treat congestive heart failure with atrial fibrillation. This component plays a role of an epitope, an anti-arrhythmia drug, a cardiotonic drug, and an EC inhibitor.

Indications

This medicine is used to treat heart failure along with other medications. The medicine Lanoxin also treats certain types of irregular heartbeat like chronic atrial fibrillation. After the treatment of heart failure, it helps maintain the ability to walk and exercise. It also improves the strength of the heart.  It affects certain minerals like sodium and potassium inside the heart cells. It reduces strain on the heart and maintains a normal, steady, and strong heartbeat.

Action Mechanism

The active ingredient in the given medicine, Digoxin works by increasing the force of contraction of the muscle of the heart by inhibiting the activity of an enzyme. These enzymes control the movement of calcium, sodium, and potassium into the heart muscle. Calcium controls the force of contraction.

Dosages

This given cardiac glycoside medicine Lanoxin is available in the form of a conventional tablet and offered in a dosage as follows:

• 0.25 mg: It is to be administered as advised by the doctor, usually taken with or without food once a day

This medicine is not recommended in people with Ventricular fibrillation.
