The active ingredient in the medicine is Dabigatran Etexilate Mesylate. This active component is methanesulfonate acts as a thrombin inhibitor and anticoagulant. It is used for the prevention of stroke and systemic embolism. It works by binding and blocking thrombogenic activity and the prevention of thrombus formation. It also reduces the risk of stroke and systemic embolism in people with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation.
Indications
This medicine is indicated for the prevention of stroke and harmful blood clots in the legs or lungs if they have a certain type of irregular heartbeat i.e. atrial fibrillation. It is also used to treat blood clots in the veins of the legs or lungs and to reduce the risk of them occurring again. It can be used to prevent these blood clots from forming after hip replacement surgery.
Pradaxa is an anticoagulant that acts by blocking a certain substance in the blood. This helps to keep blood flowing smoothly in the body. It should not be used to prevent blood clots from forming after artificial heart valve replacement.

Action Mechanism
This medicine works as the Dabigatran Etexilate Mesylate works. This medicine is used to treat and prevent blood clots in the deep veins of the legs and blood clots in the lungs. This pill blocks the action of thrombin a protein that is necessary for the coagulation of blood that results in blood clots. Decreasing the action of thrombin reduces the ability of blood to clot.
Dosages
This given effective medicine Pradaxa is available in various dosages as follows:
- 75 mg: Take this medication orally with or without food as directed by the doctor, usually twice a day
- 110 mg: Administer this tablet twice a day as advised by the doctor, do not go against it
- 150 mg: It should be consumed with or without food as prescribed by the doctor
Note
Do not consume antacids within 24 hours after surgery, or dabigatran may not work as well.
