Active Ingredient: The active ingredient in this medicine is Sotalol Hydrochloride, which is the hydrochloride salt form of sotalol, an ethanolamine derivative with Class III antiarrhythmic and antihypertensive properties. It is a nonselective beta-adrenergic receptor and potassium channel antagonist. In the heart, this agent inhibits chronotropic and inotropic effects so as to slow the heart rate and decreasing myocardial contractility. It helps to reduce sinus rate, slows conduction in the atria and in the atrioventricular node, and increases the functional refractory period of the AV node.
Indications: Given medication is used to treat a serious or possibly life-threatening type of fast heartbeat called sustained ventricular tachycardia. Betapace is also used to treat certain fast/irregular heartbeats in people with severe symptoms such as weakness and shortness of breath. It helps to lessen these symptoms, slows the heart rate, and helps the heart to beat more normally and regularly. This medication is both a beta-blocker and an anti-arrhythmic.
Action Mechanism: Sotalol composed drug is used to treat abnormal heart rhythms such as ventricular arrhythmias (for example, ventricular tachycardia) that are life-threatening and atrial fibrillation. It is not used for less severe abnormal heart rhythms. Betapace should not be used in patients with bronchial asthma, sinus bradycardia, second and third-degree AV block, unless a functioning pacemaker is present.
Dosages: This is an anti-arrhythmic medicine is available for oral consumption and in dosage as mentioned below:
- 80 mg: This medicine shall be consumed usually 1 to 3 to times a day exactly as advised by the doctor
Note: Check blood pressure and heart rate regularly while treating with this medicine.
