Description
Active Ingredient
Theophylline is the main active ingredient used in this medicine that appears to inhibit phosphodiesterase and prostaglandin production, regulate calcium flux and intracellular calcium distribution, and antagonize adenosine. This active agent relaxes bronchial smooth muscle, produces vasodilation, stimulates the CNS, stimulates the cardiac muscle, induces diuresis, and increases gastric acid secretion. It may also suppress inflammation and improve the contractility of the diaphragm.
Indications
Theophylline-composed medicine is indicated to treat lung diseases like asthma and COPD i.e. bronchitis or emphysema. Theo-24 must be used regularly to prevent wheezing and shortness of breath. It is a member of a group of drugs called Xanthines. It works in the airways by relaxing muscles, opening breathing passages, and reducing the lungs’ response to irritants.
It should not be used to relieve sudden breathing problems.
Action Mechanism
Given medicine belongs to a class of medications known as bronchodilators. It is approved to treat asthma and other airway diseases. Asthma is a breathing problem caused by the narrowing of the airways, the breathing passages that allow air to move in and out of the lungs. The narrowed airways can open either spontaneously or with medications. Theo-24 helps to open airways by relaxing the smooth muscles in the walls of the airways. It also can be helpful in people with emphysema and chronic bronchitis when their symptoms are partially related to reversible airway narrowing.
