Active Ingredient: Given effective medicine is composed of active ingredients i.e. Enalapril Maleate and Hydrochlorothiazide. Enalapril Maleate contains a peptide and angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor that shows antihypertensive activity. It is converted by de-esterification into its active form enalaprilat. It prevents the potent vasoconstrictive actions of angiotensin that results in vasodilation.
Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic used to treat hypertension and edema. It is also used in the treatment of hypertension and congestive heart failure. It plays the role of a xenobiotic, an environmental contaminant, a diuretic, and an antihypertensive agent.
Indications: This particular medicine Vaseretic is used in the treatment of high blood pressure. Reducing high blood pressure prevents strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. It contains 2 medications, enalapril, and hydrochlorothiazide i.e. ACE inhibitors and diuretic. It can also be used to relax the blood vessels so that blood can flow through the body more easily.
Action Mechanism: A combination of active ingredients used for treating high blood pressure. It belongs to a class of drugs called angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors. It causes contraction of the muscles surrounding the arteries in the body, so as to narrow the arteries and elevate the blood pressure. These drugs lower the blood pressure by preventing the formation of angiotensin II aiming at relaxing the arteries.
Vaseretic works by blocking salt and water reabsorption in the kidneys to increased urine output. The mechanism is lowering high blood pressure is known exactly.
Dosages: A combination of medicines is offered in dosages as given below:
- 5 mg + 12.5 mg: It is to be taken at least 4 hours before bedtime with a glass of water, as directed by the doctor
- 10 mg + 25 mg: Administer this drug exactly as mentioned in the prescription by the doctor, usually 4 hours before bedtime
Note: This medicine can make you sunlight sensitive. Advisable to use sunscreen and wear protective clothing when outdoors.
What is Vaseretic?
Vaseretic is an ACE Inhibitor.
What is mechanism of action of Vaseretic?
Vaseretic is a combination of enalapril and hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ) and is used for treating high blood pressure (hypertension). It is in a class of drugs called angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors. ACE is an enzyme in the body that causes the formation of angiotensin II. Angiotensin II causes the muscles surrounding the arteries in the body to contract, thereby narrowing the arteries and elevating the blood pressure. ACE inhibitors such as enalapril (Vasotec) lower blood pressure by preventing the formation of angiotensin II thereby relaxing the arteries.
What is the dosage for Vaseretic?
Patients who have not adequately responded to enalapril or HCTZ alone may be started on 10/25 mg/mg of Vaseretic. The dose may be increased after 2-3 weeks if adequate. The maximum dose is 2 tablets of 10/25 mg/mg once daily.
What preparations of Vaseretic is available?
Tablets (mg Vaseretic/mg HCTZ): 5/12.5 and 10/25
How should Vaseretic be stored?
Vaseretic should be stored at 15C to 30 C (59 F to 86 F) and protected from excessive light and humidity.
