Active Ingredient
The active component of this medication is Indomethacin, which is a synthetic nonsteroidal indole derivative. It shows anti-inflammatory activity and chemo-preventive properties. It acts as a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug that inhibits the enzyme cyclooxygenase so as to prevent the cyclooxygenase-mediated DNA formation by heterocyclic aromatic amines. It also inhibits the expression of multidrug-resistant protein type 1 leads to increased efficacies of some antineoplastic agents. It activates phosphatases, which inhibit the migration and proliferation of cancer cells and downregulates survivin.
Indications
Indomethacin composed of medicine Indocin SR is indicated to relieve pain, swelling, and joint stiffness caused by arthritis, bursitis, and tendonitis. Decreasing these symptoms helps to live normal daily life and perform daily functions normally. It is not advisable to use for sudden gout attacks. It is known as a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It is also used for chronic conditions such as arthritis.

Action Mechanism
The action mechanism of this medicine depends on the active component Indomethacin of this medicine. Indocin SR acts by decreasing the production of prostaglandins. These are chemicals produced by the body and which induce the fever and pain that are related to inflammation. It also blocks the enzymes that produce prostaglandins and thereby reduce the levels of prostaglandins. It results in the reduction of fever, pain and inflammation.
Dosages
This effective medicine is available in a dosage as given below:
- 75 mg: It is available for oral consumption as directed by the doctor, usually once or twice daily with a full glass of water
Do not lie down for at least 10 minutes after administrating this medication.
