Description
Active Ingredient
Active components of this medication are Losartan Potassium and Hydrochlorothiazide. Losartan Potassium is a non-peptide angiotensin II receptor antagonist that has antihypertensive activity. It works by binding to the angiotensin II receptor and blocking the binding of angiotensin II to the receptor that promotes vasodilatation and counteracting the effects of aldosterone. Angiotensin II factor stimulates the adrenal cortex to synthesize and secrete aldosterone, reducing sodium excretion and maximizing potassium excretion.
Hydrochlorothiazide is a water pill indicated to treat high blood pressure and congestive heart failure. It plays the role of a xenobiotic, an environmental contaminant, a diuretic, and an antihypertensive agent. This component is a thiazide diuretic that shows the physiologic effect of increased diuresis.
Indications
This medicine is recommended for the treatment of high blood pressure. It is also used to reduce the risk of strokes in people with high blood pressure. It can be prescribed in people with an enlarged heart. Reducing high blood pressure prevents strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. Hyzaar is a combination of angiotensin receptor blocker that relaxes the blood vessels so that blood can flow more easily. It also causes to produce more urine, which helps the body get rid of extra salt and water.
Action Mechanism
Given medication is acted by blocking the angiotensin receptor. This blocking the action of this agent, Hyzaar relaxes the muscles, dilates blood vessels and reduces blood pressure. It blocks salt and fluid reabsorption in the kidneys, inducing an increased amount of urine containing salt. It lowers high blood pressure and increases potassium levels while HCTZ reduces potassium levels.
