This medication is indicated to reduce bladder contractions by relaxing bladder smooth muscle. It is an anticholinergic agent that is indicated for the treatment of urinary incontinence and overactive bladder syndrome. It can be used in the treatment of overactive bladder. It plays the role of a muscarinic antagonist, a muscle relaxant, an antispasmodic drug, a parasympatholytic, a calcium channel blocker, and a local anesthetic.
Oxybutynin-composed medication is indicated to treat overactive bladder. Ditropan XL relieves symptoms of this condition such as urinating more often than usual, feeling like the need to urinate more often, urinary leakage, painful urination, and being unable to hold the urine. This extended-release tablet is also used to treat children with overactive bladder induced by a neurological condition such as spina bifida.

The detrusor muscle contracts in uncontrollable spasms and this is referred to as having an overactive or unstable bladder. This drug relaxes the detrusor muscle and reduces unstable, involuntary contractions of the bladder. It is to increase the capacity of the bladder to hold urine. This, in turn, reduces the need to pass urine.
