Description
Active Ingredient: This medication composed of the active component, Ramipril. It is a prodrug and nonsulfhydryl angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor with antihypertensive activity. This component is converted in the liver by de-esterification into its active form ramiprilat, which inhibits ACE, thereby blocking the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II. It abolishes the potent vasoconstrictive actions of angiotensin II and leads to vasodilatation.
Indications: Ramipril composed medicine is used to treat high blood pressure. It lowers high blood pressure; helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. This drug is also used to improve survival after a heart attack. They may also use it may also in high-risk by people such as patients with heart disease/diabetes to help prevent heart attacks and strokes. Altace may also treat heart failure in patients who have had a recent heart attack.
Ramipril is an ACE inhibitor and works by relaxing blood vessels so that blood can flow more easily.
Action Mechanism: Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors dilate arteries and veins by completely inhibiting the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II (a potent endogenous vasoconstrictor) and by inhibiting bradykinin metabolism; these actions result in preload and afterload reductions on the heart. It also promotes sodium and water excretion by inhibiting angiotensin-II induced aldosterone secretion; elevation in potassium may also be observed. It also elicits renoprotective effects through the vasodilation of renal arterioles. Altace reduces cardiac and vascular remodeling associated with chronic hypertension, heart failure, and myocardial infarction.
