Description
Active Ingredient
This medication is composed of the active component Lansoprazole. It is a selective and irreversible proton pump inhibitor that is converted to an active sulfonamide derivative in the acidic environment of the gastric parietal cell. This medicine binds to the gastric proton pump ATPase and forms a stable disulfide bond with the sulfhydryl group leading to the inactivation of the ATPase. It also reduces gastric acid secretion. It does not have anticholinergic or histamine H2 -receptor antagonistic properties.
Indications
Given medication is a proton pump inhibitor used to reduce the amount of acid in the stomach. Prevacid Solutab can be used to treat gastric ulcers or duodenal ulcers, heartburn due to gastroesophageal reflux disease, erosive esophagitis i.e. a condition with inflammation and ulcers in the esophagus, prevent and treat stomach ulcers due to use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, treat hypersecretory conditions, where the stomach makes too much acid, such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and treat a stomach infection caused by Helicobacter pylori in combination with an antibiotic.
Action Mechanism
Given medication belongs to a class of drugs known as proton pump inhibitors.
Prevacid Solutab acts by reducing the amount of acid produced in the stomach. It blocks the proton pump in the cells of the stomach. This drug works in the final step of acid production. When the proton pump is blocked, the stomach produces less acid. This helps to reduce the symptoms.
