Active Ingredient

This effective medicine contains Deflazacort as the main active ingredient. This active component is a corticosteroid hormone used as an agent to manage Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). DMD can cause serious muscle weakness and progressive breathing and cardiovascular disability, severely impacting peoples’ quality of life and survival.

This active ingredient delays the onset of muscle-related complications resulting from DMD, prolonging the lives of children with DMD. It exerts less harmful effects on bone health and weight than other steroid medications.

Indications

Mentioned medicine Emflaza is a steroid indicated for the treatment of Duchenne muscular dystrophy in adults and children at least 2 years old. This medicine is not a cure for muscular dystrophy, but it may improve muscle strength and slow the progression of disability.

Action Mechanism

Active ingredient Deflazacort acts by interfering with the release of certain chemicals in the body which causes inflammation. It is a pro-drug and contains a pro-corticosteroid, which, once metabolized, becomes a corticosteroid that resembles an anti-inflammatory hormone naturally produced by the body. Emflaza works by suppressing the immune system.

• Urinary frequency
• Increased appetite
  Upper respiratory tract infection

Dosages

Given medicine is used to treat Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and available for oral administration in a dosage as mentioned below:

• 6 mg: Take this medicine as mentioned in the prescription by the doctor, do not go against it.

Note

Do not receive live vaccines including measles, mumps, rubella, polio, rotavirus, typhoid, yellow fever, varicella, zoster, and nasal flu vaccine while treating with this tablet. It is advisable to avoid eating grapefruit or drinking grapefruit juice while taking this medicine.
