Description
Active Ingredient: Given medication is composed of active ingredient Spironolactone. It is a synthetic 17-spironolactone corticosteroid with potassium-sparing diuretic, antihypertensive, and antiandrogen activities. It inhibits adrenocortical hormone aldosterone activity in the distal renal tubules, myocardium, and vasculature. It also inhibits the pathophysiologic effects of aldosterone produced in excess by various types of malignant and benign tumors.
Indications: Spironolactone composed medicine is used to treat high blood pressure and heart failure. Aldactone lowers high blood pressure that helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. It is also used to treat swelling caused by certain conditions such as heart failure, liver disease by removing excess fluid and improving symptoms such as breathing problems. It is also used to treat low potassium levels and conditions in which the body is making too much of a natural chemical. It is a “water pill” i.e. potassium-sparing diuretic.
Action Mechanism: Mentioned medicine is a specific pharmacologic antagonist of aldosterone, acting primarily through competitive binding of receptors at the aldosterone-dependent sodium-potassium exchange site in the distal convoluted renal tubule. Aldactone induces increased amounts of sodium and water to be excreted, while potassium is retained. It acts both as a diuretic and as an antihypertensive drug by this mechanism.
Dosages: This medication is available for oral consumption and in dosage as mentioned below:
- 25 mg: It is to be consumed orally with food or water as exactly directed by the doctor
- 50 mg: Take this tablet as directed by the doctor. If stomach upset occurs, take it with food or milk
