Description

Active Ingredient: This high blood pressure treating medicine contains active ingredient Enalapril. This active component is a dicarbonyl-containing peptide and angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor with antihypertensive activity. It is converted by de-esterification into its active form enalaprilat that binds to and inhibits ACE, so as to block the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II. This prevents the potent vasoconstrictive actions of angiotensin II and results in vasodilation. It also decreases angiotensin II-induced aldosterone secretion by the adrenal cortex, which leads to an increase in sodium excretion and subsequently increases water outflow.

Indications: Enalapril composed of medicine is used to treat high blood pressure. Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. Vasotec is also used to treat heart failure and to help prevent people with a certain heart problem (left ventricular dysfunction) from developing heart failure. It belongs to a class of drugs known as ACE inhibitors. It works by relaxing blood vessels so blood can flow more easily.

Action Mechanism: This drug belongs to a class of drugs called angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors. ACE is an enzyme in the body that causes the formation of angiotensin II. Angiotensin II causes the arteries in the body to narrow, thereby elevating blood pressure. ACE inhibitors, such as Vasotec, lower blood pressure by preventing the formation of angiotensin II thereby relaxing the arteries. ACE inhibitors also improve the effectiveness of the heart in patients with heart failure by reducing the blood pressure that the heart must maintain.

Dosages: This ACE inhibitor medication is available for oral consumption and in dosage as mentioned below:

• 2.5 mg: This medicine shall be consumed with or without food as directed by the doctor, usually once or twice a day
• 5 mg: Swallow this tablet once or twice a day as prescribed by the doctor
• 10 mg: It is recommended to consume once a day with or without food as advised by the doctor
• 20 mg: Take this medication as prescribed by the doctor

Note: This medication is not recommended to people whoever had angioedema. Avoid taking it within 36 hours before or after taking medicine that contains sacubitril.

How should Vasotec be administred?

What should be avoided taking Vasotec?

Avoid getting up too fast from a sitting or lying position. Avoid becoming overheated or dehydrated during exercise, in hot weather, or by not drinking enough fluids. Enalapril can decrease sweating and inctreases risk of heart stroke.

What other drugs will affect Vasotec?

Medications like a diuretic, blood pressure medications, lithium, gold injections to treat arthritis, or insulin or oral diabetes medicine may interact with Vasotec.

What happens if missed a prescribed dose of Vasotec?

Take the medicine as soon as remembered, but skip the missed dose if it is almost time for the next dose. Do not take two doses at one time.
