Active Ingredient
Risperidone is an atypical antipsychotic medication used as the main active component. It is used to treat delusional psychosis like schizophrenia. This drug is also indicated to treat some forms of bipolar disorder, psychotic depression, and Tourette syndrome. The lower doses are used for autistic spectrum disorders than are used for schizophrenia and forms of psychosis. It is a dopamine blocker that inhibits the functioning of postsynaptic dopamine receptors. It is an anxiolytic agent and a serotonin receptor agonist.
Indications
Risperidone composed of medicine is indicated to treat schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or irritability associated with autistic disorder. This drug Risperdal M-TAB should not be used to treat behavioral problems in older adults who have dementia.
Action Mechanism
This antipsychotic medicine is believed to be work by affecting the way the brain works by interfering with communication among the brain’s nerves. Nerves communicate with each other by forming and releasing chemicals called neurotransmitters. They travel to other nearby nerves where they attach to receptors on the nerves. It may inhibit the function of the nearby nerves. Risperdal M-TAB blocks several of the receptors on nerves like dopamine type 2, serotonin type 2, and alpha 2 adrenergic receptors.
Dosages
This antipsychotic medicine is offered in dosages as mentioned below:
- 0.5 mg: It is an orally-disintegrating tablet should be taken orally with or without food as directed by your doctor
- 1 mg: This orally-disintegrating tablet should be taken 1 or 2 times a day as prescribed by the doctor

This medication is not recommended in pregnant or breastfeeding women; it may harm babies.
