Description

Active Ingredient: This particular medication is composed of Isosorbide Dinitrate as the main active component. This active component is the dinitrate salt form of isosorbide that shows vasodilator activity. It acts by relaxing the vascular smooth muscle by the formation of the free radical nitric oxide that is identical to the endothelium-derived relaxing factor. This nitric oxide activates guanylyl cyclase so as to increase the synthesis of cGMP within a smooth muscle. It leads to dephosphorylation of light chain myosin and relaxation of peripheral arteries and veins. It also relaxes coronary arteries to increase blood circulation through the ischemic area.

Indications: Given effective medication is indicated to prevent chest pain in people with a certain heart condition like coronary artery disease. Isordil belongs to a class of drugs called nitrates that relaxes and widens blood vessels so blood can flow more easily to the heart.

It will not relieve chest pain once it occurs. It is also not prescribed to be consumed just before physical activities like exercise, sexual activity to prevent chest pain.

Action Mechanism: This type of drug is a vasodilator. This medication works by improving the flow of blood and oxygen to the heart and decrease the work that the heart must do by expanding the arteries and veins in the body. Due to the widening of these arteries, it reduces the amount of blood that returns to the heart that must be pumped. Isordil lowers the pressure in the arteries against which the heart must pump. The heart works less and requires less blood and oxygen. It also dilates the arteries that supply the heart with blood so that the heart receives more blood and oxygen.

Dosages: It is available in the following dosages:

• 5 mg: It should be taken 2 to 3 times a day or as directed by the doctor, do not go against it
• 10 mg: This medicine is to be consumed 2 to 3 times a day as prescribed by the doctor

It should not be used in case of having a certain medical condition like a head injury or head surgery.

What Isordil is used for?

Isordil tablets are for the prevention and treatment of attacks of angina. It will not reduce the pain of an angina attack, but when taken regularly may prevent an attack from occurring.

What is Angina?

Condition angina is a pain or uncomfortable in the chest, it is usually spreaded to the arms, neck and sometimes to the shoulders and back. The pain might be caused due to little blood and oxygen getting to the heart.

How does Isordil work?

Isordil belongs to a group of medicines known as nitrates. The medicine works by opening up blood vessels which allows more blood and oxygen to reach the heart.

How to take Isordil?

Take Isordil at the first signs of an anginal attack, place one or two tablets under the tongue. If your angina is not relieved after consuming these tablets you must call the doctor or nearest hospital as soon as possible.

What is to be take care of while consuming Isordil?

You may feel light-headed or dizzy or faint when you begin to take Isordil. This is because your blood pressure is falling suddenly. If you drink alcohol, dizziness or faintness may be worse.
