Description
Active Ingredient
The active component in this medication is Gliclazide. It is a short-acting sulfonylurea compound with hypoglycemic activity. It increases peripheral insulin sensitivity metabolized by CYP2C9. It is an antihyperglycemic agent useful for the treatment of non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus.
It increases both basal insulin secretion and meal-stimulated insulin release. It acts by decreasing hepatic gluconeogenesis and may increase the number and sensitivity of insulin receptors.
Indications
This active component of Diamicron is indicated for the control of blood glucose in people with type 2 diabetes. It must be used in conjunction with diet and exercise regimens to control high blood sugar in non-insulin-dependent diabetics. Managing high blood sugar prevents heart disease, strokes, kidney disease, circulation problems, and blindness.
Action Mechanism
This medication belongs to a class of medicines called oral hypoglycemics. It is approved for the control of blood glucose in people with type 2 diabetes.
