In 2011, the United States observed new infections called as rat lungworm. According to the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention 576 to 740 million people in the U.S. suffering from hookworm infections and approximately, 13.9% people in the U.S. consuming antibodies for treating Worm infections.
The infection caused by parasites living in the bowel or intestine called as Worm Infection. There are different kind of worms like, roundworms, hookworms, tapeworms, threadworm, Enterobius and vermicularis. Mostly, the infection is caused by the Threadworms, also called as pinworm.
Basically, Threadworms are white in color, small, and thread-like worms 2 to 13 mm long. This infection is most common in children, but can be observed in at any age.
Causes of Worm Infections
If someone mistakenly swallows the worm’s eggs, the person can catch with Threadworms. The eggs of the worm hatches inside the bowel, live and carried out through the anus and lay eggs on the skin area.
It can easily pick up, if children do not wash hands after toilet, or scratches their bottom and wander in the home. It can transfer on the bedding or clothing. The eggs can survive for the 2 weeks in the outer environment.
Domestic animals like cat, dog, cow, etc. cannot be a source of Worm infection.
Diagnosis of Worm Infections
Most of the times. worms can be seen on the freshly passed faeces and child’s anus. If you have a Worm infection, you can diagnose it with the different methods like mentioned below:
Sticky tape test: In this test, take some clear sticky tape in the morning and press it around the area of the anus. Do not bath or wipe before applying the tape. Place a tape onto the glass slab. Take it to the doctor to examine it in the laboratory.
Symptoms of Worm Infections
Symptoms of Worm infection can be like, itchy bottom, behavioural changes, and irritability. But most people have shown no signs and symptoms. There are some more common symptoms usually observed as mentioned below:
- Abdominal pain
- Cramping and excessive crying in infants
- Intestinal cramps
- Bloody stool
- Loss of appetite
- Itchy rash
