Active Ingredient: Ketorolac Tromethamine is the active component of this medication. It is a carboxylic acid derivative that has anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antipyretic activities. This active ingredient inhibits the enzymes cyclooxygenase 1 and COX-2. As a consequence, COX-2, up-regulated at sites of inflammation and prevents the conversion of arachidonic acid to pro-inflammatory prostaglandins. This enzyme COX-1 helps prevents the normal prostaglandins that play a housekeeping role in the protection of the gastrointestinal tract, the regulation of renal blood flow, and platelet aggregation. It leads to the inhibition of COX-1 may be related to gastrointestinal toxicity, nephrotoxicity, and the inhibition of platelet aggregation.
