Simvabell is in a group of drugs called HMG CoA reductase inhibitors, or "statins." Simvabell reduces levels of "bad" cholesterol (low-density lipoprotein, or LDL) and triglycerides in the blood, while increasing levels of "good" cholesterol (high-density lipoprotein, or HDL).

The maximum dose is 40 mg/day. For patients receiving immunosuppressive drugs, the recommended starting dose is 5 mg; the maximum dose is 5 mg/day.

Patients receiving anticoagulant coumarin derivatives, before and during treatment with Simvabell should monitor the prothrombin time.
