What is Ponstan?
This medicine is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID) medicine used for treating pain associated with conditions like Gout, Rheumatoid Arthritis, sprains of muscles and joints etc. It is also used to relieve pain and cramps during menstrual periods.
How does Ponstan work?
The active ingredient mefenamic acid slows down the production of prostaglandins, which is a hormone-like substance in the body that causes pain, fever and inflammatory responses such as swelling and redness of the skin.
What is it used for?
Ponstan is indicated for pain accompanied by inflammation due to rheumatic disorders and joint problems (e.g. rheumatoid arthritis, arthrosis, Bechterew's disease, carpal tunnel syndrome, tennis elbow and bursitis).
How to use Ponstan?
Ponstan tablets are to be swallowed as whole with some liquid, preferably during or directly after meals to avoid stomach distress.
Unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor, the usual dose for adults is: 250 mg to 500 mg, three times a day.
Is Ponstan safe while being pregnant?
Only use Ponstan with your doctor's approval if you are pregnant, planning to conceive or breastfeeding.
