Description

Active Ingredient

The main active component is Rosuvastatin, which is a statin with antilipidemic and potential antineoplastic activities. It binds to and inhibits hepatic hydroxymethyl-glutaryl coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase, the enzyme which catalyzes the conversion of HMG-CoA to mevalonate, a precursor of cholesterol. This leads to a decrease in hepatic cholesterol levels and an increase in the uptake of LDL cholesterol. This main component exhibits pro-apoptotic, growth inhibitory, and pro-differentiation activities in a variety of tumor cell types.

Indications

Rosuvastatin-composed medicine Crestor is used along with a proper diet to help lower “bad” cholesterol and fats such as LDL, triglycerides and raise “good” cholesterol in the blood. This medicine belongs to a group of drugs known as “statins.” While treating with this medicine, eating a proper diet, other lifestyle changes that may help this medication work better include exercising, losing weight if overweight, and stopping smoking.

Action Mechanism

This high cholesterol-treating medicine works by inhibiting HMG-CoA reductase, an enzyme that produces cholesterol in the liver. It lowers blood total cholesterol as well as blood LDL cholesterol levels. LDL cholesterol is the “bad” type of cholesterol that increases the risk of coronary artery disease and heart attacks. Lowering LDL cholesterol levels slows the progression of coronary artery disease and may even reverse it. It also increases HDL cholesterol, the “good” type of cholesterol, and reduces triglycerides.
