Active Ingredient
Given medication is composed of two active ingredients Amoxicillin and Clavulanate Potassium. Amoxicillin is anhydrous is a Penicillin-class Antibacterial. It is considered a third-generation aminopenicillin.
Potassium clavulanate is a potassium salt having clavulanate as the counterion. It works as a suicide inhibitor of bacterial beta-lactamase enzymes. It prevents antibiotic inactivation by microbial lactamases. It plays the role of an antibacterial drug inhibitor and an antimicrobial agent.
Indications
This effective medicine is indicated to reduce the development of drug-resistant bacteria.
It is approved for the treatment of lower respiratory tract infections caused by beta-lactamase-producing isolates, acute bacterial otitis media caused by beta-lactamase isolates of H. influenzae, sinusitis, skin infections caused by beta-lactamase, E. coli, Klebsiella species, and Urinary Tract Infections caused by beta-lactamase isolates of E. coli, Klebsiella species, and Enterobacter species.
Action Mechanism
This medicine Augmentin restricts the growth of bacteria. Given antibiotics treat only bacterial infections, not viral infections such as the common cold, or flu.

Dosages
The medication Augmentin is available in dosages as mentioned below:
- 250 mg + 125 mg: The medicine should be taken every 12 hours, at the start of a meal to reduce stomach upset as directed by the doctor
- 500 mg + 125 mg: Usually, it must be taken every 8 to 12 hours before a meal as advised by the doctor
Note
This medicine is not suitable for pregnant women, it may inhibit the growth of the fetus.
