Active Ingredient: Valganciclovir Hydrochloride is used as the main active ingredient that belongs to a group of drugs known as ganciclovir. It is a nucleoside analog of 2′-deoxyguanosine, with antiviral activity. This drug is incorporated into DNA that leads to inhibition of viral DNA polymerase, and viral replication. It is an antiviral agent that is used to treat cytomegalovirus retinitis in people with aids and for the prevention of cytomegalovirus infections in organ transplant recipients who have received an organ from a CMV-positive donor.
Indications: Valganciclovir composed medicine is an antiviral drug. This drug is changed in the body to the active form of the drug called ganciclovir. Valcyte is indicated to prevent disease caused by a virus called cytomegalovirus in people who have received organ transplants. CMV disease can results in a serious infection in the body like an infection in the eye, called CMV retinitis, which can induce blindness. This medicine works by slowing the growth of the CMV virus. It also prevents the spread of infection to other areas of the body. It is to treat CMV retinitis in people with advanced HIV disease (AIDS) and it controls CMV retinitis and decreases the risk of blindness.
Action Mechanism: This effective medicine is an antiviral drug that works by preventing viral cells from multiplying in the body. Valcyte is used in adults to prevent infection with cytomegalovirus (CMV) that may occur after an organ transplant i.e. heart, kidney, or pancreas.
Dosages: Given antiviral agent is available in a dosage as mentioned below:
- 450 mg: This medicine should be taken 1 to 2 times a day with food or as directed by the doctor
